WHO WAS JAN E. BOR?


JÁN E. BOR is the well know pseudonym of Dr. Ernest Zatko.

He was born in the village Zabokreky, Slovakia. He completed his high school in Nitra and continued studying in Bratislava getting the Ph. Dr. of Roman Linguistics.
He edited eleven books in his hometown meanwhile he was journalist and critic of the newspapers: ELANE, PERO, POSTUPE, KULTURE, etc. Behind the advancement of the Red Army, Dr. Zatko-Bor had to let his homeland.

After staying a certain time in Austria, he went to Baviera and finally arrived to Italy. In this nation he stayed 3 years that served him to extend his knowledge and means the most creative stage of his literature’s studies because he interviewed eminent personalities: Giovanni Papini, L. Lisi, I. Giordani, J. Dominico, La Pira, Salvaneschi. Some historians such as: Monsgr. Riciotti, De Sanctis, Fortini, Trompeo, Salvini. Painters and sculptors: Carlo Bo, Casnati, Hutton, Exuper. He also interviewed philosophers as Manacorda and father Gemelli as well as father Lombardi, father Pio of Petralcina, Cardinal de la Costa, Emilio Zolli, etc. All those interviews were published in articles in Argentina.

He emigrated to Argentina and began after the 50’ to collaborate in Buenos Aires with most remarkable magazine like: LA VOZ FRANCISCANA, HISTONIUM, DINAMICA SOCIAL, etc. Also he was an active philosopher, writer and member of Slovak Association established in Bs. As.
Jointly Dr. Ignac Zelenka (Director of the Apostolic Library in the Vatican City) from Italy he had established the Editorial “DUCH A SVET”.

Ján E. Bor was the redactor & promoter of Slovak’s culture: Written more than 30 books with a serial of biographies about outstanding Slovaks living around the world: Msgr. Ján Rekem (USA), Msgr. Joseph Kapala (CANADA), Imrich Stolarik (CANADA), Koloman K. Geraldini (ARGENTINA), etc, and about the innovative poetry of Dr. Zelenka-Vesnin (ITALY).

Behind this literary’s work, he also was a columnist of Slovak’s newspapers: JEDNOTA, KANADSKY SLOVAK, JUHOAMERICKY SLOVAK, HLAZY Z RIMA, POSOL, SLOVAK V AMERIKE, KRAJANSKY POZDRAV, etc as well as he had participated with articles in all Slovak’s Calendars and Argentineans Slovak’s newspapers.

He married with a girl of Slovak's background -Prof. María I. Gajdos- and he became father of two sons (John and Paul), one daughter (Veronica) and grandfather of two grandsons (Thomas and Nicolas) and three granddaughters (Pilar, Belen and Shophia).

He died in Capital Federal, Argentina.
